Organizations Behind the Film

The Humanity Funds, formally founded in 2022, runs humanitarian programs in Ukraine and Afghanistan focusing on women and children to enable healthy, democratic societies and shape a better world. One of the top priorities is the return and reintegration of Ukraine’s abducted children. Based out of Washington State, The Humanity Funds has partnered with Save Ukraine to document the plight of Lina and her family with the goal to raise awareness and support for Save Ukraine’s mission.

SAVE UKRAINE, founded in 2014 during the early days of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine, has emerged as the largest humanitarian organization dedicated to rescuing abducted Ukrainian children and providing critical support to families affected by war.

Established in response to the growing humanitarian crisis sparked by Russia's annexation of Crimea and the outbreak of violence in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, Save Ukraine initially focused on delivering emergency aid and evacuation assistance to displaced families.

These early efforts laid the foundation for a mission centered on protecting Ukraine’s most vulnerable populations: children, orphans, and families trapped in conflict zones.

About Ukraine’s Abducted Children

Ukrainian authorities have verified the identities of over 19,500 Ukrainian children that Russian forces abducted from Ukrainian orphanages or other facilities or took away from parents and guardians under the pretext of “summer camps” like they tried with Alyona’s children. The exact number of Ukrainian children transferred to Russia is not known but estimates range as high as 700,000 to over a million.

The children are subject to forced adoptions, changed identities (with Russian passports) and re-education as well as military camps to erase any Ukrainian identity and allegiance. The International Criminal Court (ICC) has classified these acts as war crimes, and issued arrest warrants against Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Children's Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova.

Reports from children who have been rescued by Save Ukraine from Russian “summer camps” are well documented by Save Ukraine. Read the story of Vitaliy: https://www.saveukraineua.org/abduction-stories/vitaliys-story/

There are about 1.6 million Ukrainian children in the Russian occupied areas of Ukraine (as of May 2025, Russia occupies about 20 percent of Ukrainian territory). Saving these children, like Lina, remains an urgent goal of Save Ukraine. The documentary Lina. will help achieve this goal.
